Sometimes the unexpected pops up to greet you square in the face. It may be a good surprise; or one that is not terribly good; or one that is neither good nor bad, but just simply is. Such was the case today, when the city was covered by a big, white blanket of wet snow. Snow! A Nor’easter in October. A blizzard of uncertainty that brought fat snow flakes, slushy cold and thunder + lightening to this Saturday in Autumn. I made the above photo on my skimpy phone camera while walking down the block.
It seemed like a good idea to make a short trek through the deluge to visit one of my favorite taco stands and fetch a quesadilla de calabacita (squash – or pumpkin, according to some translations). It was nice to eat some bites of bright, sunny flavors – fresh white cheese, onion, shredded lettuce wrapped in a tortilla with grilled cubes of squash and a dash of Cholula hot sauce – a nice juxtaposition between seasons and tastes; expected vs. unexpected.
On another note, I am behind. Way behind. I have so many stories and pictures to share that I don’t know where to begin in digging through the backlog – everything from baking bread, to killing chickens, to pitting cherries in Croatia. Therefore, I have decided to once again participate in NaBloPoMo – National Blog Posting Month – the monthly challenge in which one posts to their blog everyday for an entire month. Please come back on Tuesday, November 1st and every day in November for a few tales (and tails)!
well, at least you don’t lack for material…i’m sure any of them would be interesting. maybe you should just throw slips of paper in a bag and pick one at random…
Gene, not a bad idea, I might just do that!
