Road Food

I’m on the road today, which got me thinking about road food. Specifically, some of the food and drink I had at rest stops along highways in Europe last summer. These photos were made at average, run-of-the-mill rest stops, nothing fancy. It was kind of marvelous, the selection of freshly-made foods available at most places. Not to say there weren’t assorted fast + fried options available, too – surely there were. But these options were the standard. Note too, the last two photos at the bottom of the page. There are tiny clues as to the location of that tray of goodies – (all of which, you’ll note, are served on real plates and glasses).

From top: iced tea with berries and mint, cheese stick, assorted vegetable salads, kohlrabi salad, coffee and cake.
